Co-founded by Texas State Representative Martha Wong and
Kim Szeto, APAHA continues to grow under the leadership of
many outstanding Asian American community leaders. They include
Houston City Councilman Gordon Quan, Judge Toni Ingversen,
Pat Charnveja, and Annie Mak. Some of APAHA's achievements
include:
- Incorporation in 1992 and granting of tax-exempt status in 1993.
- Coordinating the official Asian/Pacific American Heritage
Month (APAHM) Kickoff Event every May.
- Organizing the Annual Asian/Pacific American Heritage Festival & Parade
in the Greater Houston area since 1995.
- Compiling and distributing commemorative calendar of APAHM
events.
- Hosting annual Pan Asian Gala featuring internationally and
nationally renowned celebrities, such as Hiroshima,
Russell Wong, James Hong, Faye Yu, Miss World 1995, and Lauren Tom.
- Hosted New York City based H.T. Chen Dance Company in the
May 2003 performance of “Bian Dan” at
the Hobby Center for Performing Arts.
