2019 Scholarship Recipients

Every year, APAHA awards scholarships to qualified applicants to ensure their continuing education and dedication to sharing knowledge about AAPI Heritage.  Please join us to congratulate the following scholarship recipients. We encourage them develop into great leaders for our communities.

Heather Huang

Heather Huang will be attending Georgetown University in the fall and hopes to become a civil rights attorney working within politics to advocate for the disabled. She enjoys participating in debate and Mock Trial as well as editing journalistic works as the head of Bellaire's Yearbook staff.

Tracy Hoang

Tracy Hoang will be attending The University of Texas at Austin to study Biology. She is the oldest of four children in a first-generation Vietnamese American family. Her hobbies include tennis, calligraphy, bullet journaling, and watching movies.

Midhat Jafry

Midhat Jaffry is very methodical and conscientious as she loves organization through charts and graphs. She is pursuing biochemistry at the University of Houston this fall. A book fanatic, she finds peace through books because it fascinates her that she can be a part of a world created only by words.

Maryn Kunthara

Maryn Kunthara is a senior at the Elkins High School Engineering Academy. She is going to UT Austin in the fall to major in Electrical and Computer Engineering. She loves to cook and fishing in her free time. She also enjoys competing in Model United Nations conferences, cake decorating, and graphic design.

Hanzheng Li

Hanzheng Li is a senior graduating from Dulles High School's class of 2019 and is enrolling at Cornell University later this fall to study Computer Science and Psychology. His tastes are greatly influenced by international cultures, ranging from K-pop dance to Swiss psychology to Latin reggaeton.

Bruce Dat Nguyen

Bruce Nguyen had always had an immense curiosity for computer technologies. Over time, this initial interest has slowly transformed into a passion and has since solidified his path into the field of technology. He is now planning to attend The University of Texas at Austin as a Computer Science major.

Ethan Song

Ethan Song is the valedictorian at Wisdom High School. He is quite involved in his high school and is president of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta clubs. In addition, he is the team leader of his school's UIL Math Team, something he has been taking part in since 6th grade.

Huan Tran

Huan Tran is the second oldest out of five siblings in his family. He has accomplished many things that he is very proud of at his school, from going to State for Visuals Art competition to being the Vice President of National Honor Society.

Christina Wang

Christina Wang has been the president of the Women in Science and Engineering Club for two years, and through planning field trips and speaker events, constantly seeking a variety of opportunities for club members, she has grown the club to almost triple of what it was before to over 100 members.

Crystal Wang

At just 3 years old, Crystal started performing onstage, and has continued with singing and songwriting. She manages her independent music career and has released multiple singles and albums under her stage name "Crystal King." She also won the US division in The Voice of China in 2017.

Madison Wong

Madison Wong is a National Merit Commended student. In school, she is the Vice President of Ambassador’s Club, General Officer of National Honor Society, Falcon Senator and team captain of the varsity swim team. This fall, Madison will attend MIT as well as swim collegiately for the Engineers!

Lauren Yang

At school, Lauren Yang sits on the Superintendent’s student advisory council and serves as President of Fort Bend ISD’s Math & Science Academy. In the fall, she will attend Harvard University and plans to double major in Applied Mathematics and Sociology.
