Lunar New Year Children's Festival

On Saturday February 10, 2024, APAHA partnered up with the Children's Museum of Houston to celebrate Lunar New Year.  With the help of volunteers from Dobie and Elkins high school we were able to teach the public about various New Year's traditions.  We handed out lucky red envelopes for the children with either a gold chocolate coin inside or a $2 dollar bill.

We had different stations where the children could create different crafts and learn about the traditions that come with Lunar New Year.  One station they were able to look up the year they were born and figure out which Zodiac sign they were.  The next station they were able to create bookmarks with the Chinese characters for their zodiac sign or Happy New Year.  We also had stations where they could create various origami from dragons to fans.  Many visitors were able to be introduced to this celebration while others that had an understanding of it were able to embrace it and show it to their children.

Past event: Sunday, February 10, 2024 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m.
