2023 Scholarship Recipients

Every year, APAHA awards scholarships to qualified applicants to ensure their continuing education and dedication to sharing knowledge about AAPI Heritage. Please join us to congratulate the following scholarship recipients. We encourage them develop into great leaders for our communities.

Andy Jiang

  H-E-B & APAHA Scholarship Recipient   

Andy is a senior at Stephen F. Austin High School in Fort Bend ISD. Andy is in the top percentile of his class and is in many clubs and national honor societies. Andy also really enjoys playing sports, and he is on the varsity tennis and volleyball team. Andy will be attending UT Austin this fall.

Trang Tran

  Mariam Issa Community Service Scholarship Recipient  

Trang Tran is a senior at Cypress Creek High School. She has earned a Distinguished Honor Roll and perfect attendance ever since Kindergarten. Trang was rewarded the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence in her sophomore year.

Sim Celena

  Mariam Issa Community Service Scholarship Recipient  

Sim Celena is a senior at Ball High School in Galveston. She has made the Vice President’s List at Galveston College with a 3.8 GPA. Celena will attend Texas A&M University this fall to major in economics.

Daniel Lei, a senior at Lawrence Elkins High School, enjoys hobbies such as cooking, golfing, kayaking, and playing video games. Daniel is excited to attend the University of
Texas at San Antonio this fall.

  Cadence Bank & APAHA Scholarship Recipient  

Alifiya Saleem is a senior at Kempner High School. She dedicates her time to learning languages and cultivating her communication skills with people all around the globe. She will attend the University of Pennsylvania as a Hunstman Scholar with a dual degree in International Studies and Business at Wharton

Amy He is a senior at Bellaire High School. She is a valedictorian and serves as the Student Council President. She will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study Computer Science.

James Liu is a senior at Klein Cain High School. He will attend Johns Hopkins University this fall as a Biology Major, with hopes to attend medical school in the future so he can advance his career in medicine.

Mahir Patel is a senior at Elkins High School. He enjoys giving back to his own community by volunteering at Shri Swaminarayan Temple where he tutors students in Hinduism and Gujarati. Mahir will attend the University of Texas at Austin this fall.

Mihir Bhatia is a senior at Cypress Ranch High School and is attending The University of Texas at Austin to pursue Finance and the Canfield Business Honors Program this fall.

Nitya Kodali is a senior at Langham Creek High School. She will be graduating with both her high school diploma and Associate of Science Degree this May through the dual-credit program. She will attend Vanderbilt University this fall.

Nolan Zeng is a senior at Westchester Academy for International Studies High School. He’ll be attending Duke University this fall and will major in Mechanical Engineering with the possibility of double majoring in either Economics or Public Policy.

Ryan Nguyen

  Cadence Bank & APAHA Scholarship Recipient  

Ryan Nguyen is a senior at Klein Forest High School. Beyond extracurriculars, he is happy to be serving the Asian American community at his high school with AAPISA, the Asian American and Pacific Islander Student Association, and helping other Asian-Americans in his cohort with college applications through EMERGE Fellowship.

Sandhya Mahesh

  Cadence Bank & APAHA Scholarship Recipient  

Sandhya is a senior at Shadow Creek High School with a strong interest in both STEM and music. This fall, she will be attending the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School studying Finance and Computer Science as a member of the Jerome Fisher M&T program.

​  Cadence Bank & APAHA Scholarship Recipient  

Taryn Hozdic is a senior at Jordan High School in Katy ISD. He has been a member of the Houston Youth Symphony for 3 years and is a current Oboist and English Horn for the top youth orchestra: Symphony. He will attend the University of California, Santa Barbara’s College of Creative Studies majoring in Marine Science.

Trinisha Nguyen

  Cadence Bank & APAHA Scholarship Recipient  

Trinisha Nguyen is a senior at Pearland High School. She enjoys expanding her knowledge mainly in the four STEM areas. She was in band from her freshman to junior year and held the leadership position of Percussion Captain. She will be attending UT Austin in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering.
