Invitation to Self-Nominate for APAHA Board of Directors

The Asian Pacific American Heritage Association (APAHA) is currently seeking nominations for new members to join its Board of Directors. We are looking for dedicated and passionate individuals who are committed to our mission of empowering Asian and Pacific Islander Americans in civic and public affairs.

As a valued member of our community, we believe you may know exceptional leaders who would be a great fit for our board. We are seeking individuals with a strong background in areas such as community engagement, fundraising, public policy, or organizational leadership.

We would be honored if you would consider nominating a qualified candidate, or even yourself, for this important role. Please submit a resume and a completed application at your earliest convenience.

BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Understand, support, and contribute to the development of the APAHA board's mission, vision, and programs.

  2. Prepare for and actively participate in board, committee, and special meetings. Ask timely and substantive questions. Support majority decisions.

  3. Serve on at least one board committee.

  4. Give an annual financial gift according to personal means and assist in fundraising, particularly through personal influence with corporations, individuals, and foundations.

  5. Understand financial statements. Exercise prudence in the control and transfer of funds. Ensure that proper financial controls exist.

  6. Suggest nominees to the board. You have a responsibility to articulate prerequisites for candidates. They should be men and women who support APAHA's mission and can make significant contributions to the work of the board and the progress of APAHA.

  7. Enhance the organization’s public standing. The board should clearly articulate the organization’s mission, accomplishments, and goals to the public and garner support from the community.

  8. Avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest that might embarrass the board or the organization. Disclose any possible conflicts to the board immediately. (See Conflict of Interest Policy Document)

  9. Be willing to accept a leadership role on the board (committee chair or officer).

  10. Ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability. The board is ultimately responsible for ensuring adherence to legal standards and ethical norms.

BOARD COMMITMENTS:

  • Attend all board and committee meetings and functions, such as special events.

  • Be informed about the organization’s mission, services, policies, and programs.

  • Review agenda and supporting materials before board and committee meetings.

  • Attend at least 75% of scheduled Board Meetings.

  • Review all financial statements, meeting minutes, Director’s reports and Committee reports when distributed.

  • Participate on at least one (1) Board committee.

  • Contribute at least 15 committee hours, OR help raise $1500 annually, individually or with another board member.

  • Assist in promoting fundraising causes and events and will personally attend at least two (2) per year.

  • Serve a term of two (2) years as the By-Laws require.

  • Read, sign, and comply with the Conflict-of-Interest policy for our program.
