Martha Wong

Dr. Martha J. Wong is a trailblazing educator and stateswoman who has made history through a series of "firsts." She was the first Asian American elected to the Houston City Council and the first Asian American woman in the Texas House of Representatives. A lifelong advocate for education, she served as Texas’s first Asian American principal and Associate Superintendent in HISD. Dr. Wong holds a doctorate from the University of Houston and has been inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame. Her legacy continues through numerous scholarships and her leadership on the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
